Following is a listing of the Districts Current Projects

Carbon Credit Baseline : An effort to create a soils-based carbon baseline for the State of Maine to prepare for a possible voluntary carbon credit trade program. Brochure prepared by Androscoggin Valley Soil and Water Conservation District.

Fort Kent Community Garden:  An initiative to build a community vegetable garden in Fort Kent. The garden will serve as a source for sustainable, nutritious food for Fort Kent residents and as a public space for the community to cultivate food and relationships. Learn more on our Community Garden page.

Forestry Training and Outreach:  A series of workshops that will provide formal forestry education training for recent high school graduates and adult workers in fields tied to forestry. It is hoped that the project will build community self reliance by preparing participants in local sustainable forestry management and promote interest in postsecondary forestry education.

Furbish's Lousewort Conservation Project: A project with the Upper St. John River Organization funded through the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. The District will continue to work with landowners for conservation of the  Furbish Lousewort plant.  On-the-ground soil stabilization activities will be implemented to include planting of non-invasive native species of trees and shrubs. A Landowner's Guide to Conservation of Furbish's Lousewort and the St. John River.

Maine Apprentice Gardener Program: A program that will broaden the New Sweden Consolidated School curriculum to include agriculture. It is hoped that  agriculture programs such as this will become more desirable and replicated in schools across the St. John Valley region.  The program will give students a better understanding of agriculture conservation; soil and water conservation; and sustainable food systems in a locally relevant way.  Click on the Maine Apprentice Gardener link to the left to learn more.

McLean Brook Watershed a 319 BMP Implementation Project: The McLean Brook Watershed BMP Implementation Project will significantly reduce the sediment and hence nutrient load entering McLean Brook and other down stream water bodies such as Long and Mud Lakes. The project will address all known NPS sites.

Northern Regional Envirothon: An environmental education competition for high school students in Maine. The District is hosting the Northern Maine Regional event on May, 20th 2010 at the 10th Mountain Ski Center in Fort Kent.
